The major contributing factor to corruption is lack of general awareness and knowledge among the public.

(i) People encouraging corruption (i.e., the section of people who bribe) do not clearly understand their basic rights provided to them in & by the constitution. They as well as do not know about the services that they are rightly entitled to, and as a result resort to corruption in an effort to get the work done or in certain cases to receive a preferential treatment.
(ii) There again is a different section of corrupt people (i.e., the section of people accepting bribes) who directly practise and engage in corruption by way of providing low quality services or by misusing the powers vested by the authorities.

It is important to root out corruption at both these levels.
